The scary thing is that I just realized that on my Mac, MySQL is
installed in /usr/local/mysql/var:

~:$ cd /usr/local
/usr/local:$ ls
bin mysql share src vscanx
/usr/local:$ cd mysql/var
/usr/local/mysql/var:$ sudo ls -a
Password:
. ib_arch_log_0000000000
.. ib_logfile0
Gregory-Woodhouses-Computer.local.err ib_logfile1
\(Unknown\).err ibdata1
\(Unknown\).pid mysql
hardhats test
/usr/local/mysql/var:$

Does that count as a "split personality"? :-/
