Kevin asked me a very difficult question(s)

Where am I in my install/config process and what are my goals.

My first goal is getting a ward up on vista.
My ultimate goal is getting an entire university hospital up on vista.
And in a foreign language no less :) !

Minor goals.... um.... understand Vista and contribute to the community.

So far this is what I have learned and what probably everyone here
already knows but ... I am going to say it anyway.

1. What is Vista....
An unruley complicated mass of routines amd programs that run
hospitals ... beautifully.
It so configureable that according to DSM-r IV it considered to
have a personality disorder.

2. Where to Begin....
        hardhats.org, www.va.gov/vista, www.geocities.com/kdtop3, the
hui site that I can't remember off hand.
        Download vista from source forge
follow the instructions on the Wiki for a linux install (You can
find the wiki through the hardhats site... I can't remember where that
is either)
SEND AN EMAIL TO NANCY ASKING NICELY FOR HER HELP !!!
The above was a key step for me.
Go to # 34 on the Getting CPRS working document part #1
        Then...
        GTM> D STOP^ZTMKU
        GTM> K ^%ZTSCH("MON"),^("STOP"),^("SUB")
GTM> D ^ZTMB

Then when you are at the point when you are supposed to send a
letter to the administrator, do this first :
        GTM> D ^XUP
       Select OPTION NAME: XMMGR-START-BACKGROUND-FILER
Finish off with the install.

Oh... and if things still don't work go back and check all the
places where UCI and VOL are set (the HUI configuration document is good
for that)

3. Go to Kevin's site www.geocities.com/kdtop3 to figure out how to
register a patient and create a ward.

4. Get CPRS to work on linux using Crossover Office (dropping
firewalls :) and copying riche*.dll to the fake_windows/windows/system
folder.

5. Realize that you still know nothing.... go to
ftp://ftp.va.gov/VistA/VistAdocs/ and download everything you can get
your hands on.... which unfortunately is an unwielfly amount.

6. Start reading and searching .... much like reading about how to
write comedy.

7. Give up and ask hardhats mailing list for help.

8. Modify Bhaskar's script so that it doesn't have any xdialog boxes in
it... sorry sir, I have great respect... but .... I couldn't deal with
it anymore :)

QUESTIONS I HAVE LEFT...

1 Why don't we have a FAQ!
2 I want to know how to write in Greek (um... I mean enter data in
Greek).
3 I have activated electronic signatures but have no idea how to define
one. I can't use it.
4 How can I reduce the number of options available... say for instance
in the patient registration section.
5 Which order should I read the VA. Documentation.
6 I want to change the questions to Greek (Nancy told me to ask Mark
about that sometime ago... :) )
7 I want to know how to configure mailman to work with pop3 and smtp...
I know it is possible... but I was dizzy by the time I got to that part
of the documentation. Also what does mailman mailbox translate to?
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ?
8 And much much more.

I know I didn't have to write this all down... but I wanted to have a
kind of guideline of what I have done so far. Minus asking Nancy and
Kevin dozens of questions.

Ok... that was my attempt at a newbies diary/faq/where I got/am stuck
letter.

Thanks for your time, and I will gladly take any help I can get :) !

Thanks,
Mano
