Just an addon to Kevin's comments.  For those of us who are typing impaired and/or when there is a long string you want to replace: you can use ... with or without starting and stopping characters.  Taking Kevin's example, if you wanted to replace the full text, you would simply enter '...' at the replace prompt.  If you just wanted to replace the 'really loongg' part you could enter 'r...gg' at the replace prompt or 're...gg' or anything else that would identify the string.  The tricky part with partial replacements is having the character string identify the first occurence of that string.  So if you wanted to replace 'a really loongg' you could enter 'a r...gg', also note that I could have just used one 'g', but then I'd have to remember not to type in a 'g' at the with prompt or I'd end up with 'longg'.

This can also be done with no characters in front and/or none behind, in which case the implication is to replace everything up-to or everything after.  Hope this is clear.  You can also try entering ? or ?? or ??? at a roll and scroll prompt whenever you need help and the system typically provides increasing levels of detailed help.

Ah... I think I see your problem.

You have encountered a method of fileman for editing
longer entries.  I'm not sure how many characters a
response has to be before this editing method is
selected.

the "replace" prompt is asking for the part that you
want to change.  You will then be asked what to
replace it "with", and then you will be given another
"replace" prompt.  If you hit enter, then the
replacement takes place.  Here is a screen long where
I edit a mispelled word "loongg"

Select TMG CHANGE LOG DESCRIPTION: This is a test of a
really loongg entry
Are you adding 'This is a test of a really loongg
entry' as
a new TMG CHANGE LOG (the 25TH)? No// y  (Yes)
DATE: t  (APR 15, 2005)
DETAILS:
  No existing text
  Edit? NO// n  NO

Select TMG CHANGE LOG DESCRIPTION: This is a test of a
really loongg entry
DESCRIPTION: This is a test of a really loongg entry
           Replace loongg With long  Replace
This is a test of a really long entry
DATE: APR 15,2005//

So above, I entered "loongg" after the first
"replace".  It then asked me "with" and I typed
"long".  It then asked "Replace" again.  I hit enter
and the change occurred.

Hope that helps.
