What I think is absolutely brilliant about the US's "leadership by example" strategy for EHR adoption is using the VA and the CMS initiatives to stimulate competition and set some "reference targets" for the rest of the health sector to strive for. This strategy, although more due to serendipity than planning, is in stark contrast to Canada's strategy of creating a big pot of money ($1.5 billiion) and then handing it out to the usual suspects....essentially a subsidized acquistion strategy....or, the UK's BIG spending spree (I'll bet we would be able to put VistA in every hospital on the planet for the $56 Billion US the UK is going to spend).
I know which country I would place my bets on....unfortunately for my tax dollars it is not Canada :-(.
