We just this week completed the build out/physical plant for the Alaska Clinic -i.e. now we can actually sit inside and see the magnificent view of the Alaska range. And just yesterday did we got a static IP address into the switch room. (BTW, we have 96 Ethernet ports to support the 2200 sq ft of clinic space- so the patch panel looks pretty impressive all by itself!)

The main areas left to complete are the x-ray system (which is using a high frequency generator, with three phase power) and then get all the other equipment up and installed. The main element being the exercise/pulmonary lab.

I have some information from Viasys/Sensormedics regarding their products. Apparently they have around fifty interfaces with the VA's Vista system with about thirty five of them are using the VA's Medicine package, while the rest are using the new Clinical Procedures package. I am getting much more information about their interfaces - but it seems that these are really all based on receiving and sending HL7 messages. I am not sure about the other equipment but I imagine it is the same i.e for Echo lab etc..

I started the configuration of a Vista system using VistAFOIA20050227/GT.M./Debian using some of mine and some of the docs from the Wiki - these BTW were extremely helpful, along with all I learned at the Boston meetings. WIth all this it appears that I could become a Vista "addict"

I have been documenting all of the various areas as they come up - including taking screen shots, and copying all of the text from the various configurations. So far so good, but the notes will need lots of editing. Also I have been creating some basic notes from the core documents on things like Fileman commands and what not.

Hopefully this could in some measure be of help to others. Please let me know.

Of course the question that comes up is if the OpenVista and OfficeVista releases are going to have similar support for the various diagnostic equipment. I would presume so.

I am doing my best to document the whole process (including all the factors that go into opening a medical clinic and new business here in AK) along with photos etc.. there is a ton of work to do, and I am basically the only one up here at this point, so the going has been a bit slow. But.. the good news is that Vista is there and the virtual support from all of you has been nothing less than fantastic.

Shame on you all. Are we a community or what? Does
everyone have everything figured out and are happy
with the way things are? How are we ever going to be
able to welcome newcomers to our ranks--especially
when VistA Office comes out? This is not esoteric
documentation. It is simply recording real-life
solution to problems encountered, so others can avoid
our mistakes.

Contributions would be appreciated...
