Open source free software can be very threatening to those whose business model is based on charging for proprietary licenses. It is only human nature when such a threat is perceived, but there is no obvious defense, to lash out with Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.
The best thing that those who believe that open source free software is a better business model can do is to work hard to ensure the success of open source free software. Ultimately, the better economic model will prevail. Unfortunately, as Mark says, the FUD will get worse before it gets better. Fair and Balanced?? Get used to it, it will only get worse as there is market share and money involved. Beware of the tech press, too bad they don't come to the folks at WorldVistA for some straight scoop instead of someone who probably knows little of VistA is about. The folks at WorldVistA should strive to set the record straight, voice their message loud and voice it often. Welcome to the big leagues......
