I actually think that Microsoft makes fairly good software. After all, if you get that many people working together, with that kind of funding, you have to have something to show for it.
What rubs me wrong about Microsoft is that I get a very strong feeling that I exist to serve the software, not the other way around. With Linux, I never feel like the software is out to trick me, or secretly sabatoge other software packages installed on my system. I think that Microsoft is pretty clear that they are out to dominate in their markets, and that they think it is perfectly fine to "compete agressively."
