On Thursday (July 20), the New York Times covered VistA, and VistA was slashdotted on Friday (JUly 21) around mid-day Eastern time. Here are the effects of being slashdotted as reported by Source Forge statistics.
The last column is the list of "Project Web Hits" (which I interpret as hits at http://worldvista.sourceforge.net). The next to last column is the number of downloads I am not able to ascertain which files were downloaded the most. The next column in is "Total Pages" which appears to be "Project Web Hits" plus the number of times pages at http://worldvista.org carrying the Source Forge logo were hit (the pages are actually the same, but come in via different names, and I believe the counting is done by name). I am not sure if my interpretations are entirely correct, but the Slashdot effect is clear. Obviously statistics for today (Monday, July 25) are still incomplete. 25 Jul 2005 343 52 0 24 Jul 2005 723 66 1,519 23 Jul 2005 1,303 121 14,994 22 Jul 2005 4,610 327 90,213 21 Jul 2005 1,322 119 10,232 20 Jul 2005 155 38 791 19 Jul 2005 242 28 906 -- Bhaskar ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Discover Easy Linux Migration Strategies from IBM.
