I should add that there's nothing new about the various BSD variants. As I understand it, NetBSD is a direct outgrowith of Berkeley 4.x and the oldest. FreeBSD came later, and OpenBSD is a derivative of FreeBSD that tries to be more security conscious. On the other hand, Sun just announced OpenSolaris last month.
