Alric -- You have two basic choices:
(a) Install the entire stack (VistA, GT.M and Linux) in one shot vs. install Linux separately and then install VistA & GT.M on top of it. (b) OpenVistA vs. FOIA VistA Others on the net can advise you on (b), and there have probably been discussions in the archives that you can search. Apropos (a), if you use an OpenVistA VivA release, you can install Linux, GT.M and VistA in one shot in probably a half hour or less. If you have Linux installed already, you can install GT.M and VistA with an OpenVistA SemiVivA release. Installing from an OpenVistA VivA live CD is by far the easiest Linux install you can do. In decreasing order of ease of install (at least for my fat fingers) are the Debian Sarge net install (boot a CD on a PC with a high speed Internet connection and it pulls down everything it needs), then Ubuntu Linux, followed by SuSE Linux. I have no recent experience with Red Hat, but it's supposed to be of the same level of complexity as SuSE. You can also install SuSE Linux off the web, but it requires a little more work than Debian. In any case, the differences are small, and all major Linuxen I have worked with (Gentoo excepted) are pretty easy to install. Although Ubuntu is excellent, I have not had good results with its twin, Kubuntu. CoLinux is expert frendly and suitable if you must run VistA+GT.M on a PC which must boot Windows XP at the same time (e.g., if you only have one PC and want to run the CPRS GUI on Windows and VistA on Linux on the same machine at the same time). GT.M is a 32-bit engine, so if you are running a 64-bit Linux on a 64-bit processor (Athlon 64?), you will need to install/enable 32-bit libraries and processes. I can't advise you on how to do this - I have just been told that it must be done. -- Bhaskar On Mon, 2005-08-01 at 08:32 -0500, Alric O Connor wrote: > Ok, Never mind the link for OpenVista & Install instructions.
