Greetings - I'm new to the EHR community. I started my career in 1995 marking up HTML. For the past 10 years I have been involved in QA, database support, usability, documentation, GUI design & prototyping, business analysis, data analysis and project management...the whole disaster. I have stuck my fingers into every aspect of IT development, except programming itself. Industry experience includes publishing, insurance and accounting.
Three years ago I became intrigued with the concept of a standard medical record. By exploring resources on the internet was soon apparent that there were enough standards that everyone could have their own. Alone in the wilds I realized the obvious, that the adoption of a standardized electronic health record (schema) can make a host of health oriented initiatives possible. Along the way I set a long term career goal to work in the EHR space and have been looking for a group of people developing and supporting a low cost & public domain HIM system. Then the story broke in the New York Times and I learned about the VistA community! I have been devouring everything I can find about VistA, et al since July 21st. I am available to assist the VistA community. My main focus is on the emerging standard EHR and VistA-Office, but would be happy to pitch in where ever needed. I look forward to meeting the members of WorldVistA and the Hardhats. The next meeting is the R&D meeting in Durham, but suspect that I would only get in the way, unless there is a need for a non-programmer to help out. The VVSO posted "A VistA Office conference is being planned for the September time frame" that I will surely attend -- just let me know when and where. If not sooner, I will attend the conference in Washington DC. It is with great anticipantion that I await the release of VOE and an opportunity to participate in the training programs.
