The VA has been running Cache and VistA servers on a 64-bit platform for years. They have been running on the Alpha chip on VMS with no problems with Cache.

I guess my terribly unnecessary concern is that when VA hospitals with current 32 bit whatever machine ( are they using Windows on Intel now? or IBM w/ PPC?) want to upgrade their hardware to new 64 bit Intel/AMD chip, (very possible scenario in the near future) the old database file should be read without manipulation by the new platform/chip/M/VistA.
