There must be a level of dialog with the health Professional disciplines
that may embrace this technology; they dont need detailed technical say
but they do need dialog. It was done before the MDC and MTA were dissolved
and it can be done again on a productive plain but folks arent going to
"Wait for Godot". The future of the technical platform for VistA must be
clear or the potential of VistA will not be realized -period! Many in
healthcare think of information systems engineers and "Techies
bit-flipping in a Closet" and dont appreciate the complementaity of
efforts so dawdling on chit-chat about techie issues wont get their
support. Those of us who may appreciate the nuances of ICT can do their
chit-chat on our breaktime. The opportunity is now - Fish-or-Cut-Bait - is
the reality. Sorry, but that is what you need to know. M(UMPS) and VistA
have their opportunity in the next short term and it will be a sad state
if they dont grasp this chance. I am sure Chris, Bhaskar, Jim Self and
others who have been around this for some time know this.

If the VistA Community is going to reach the rest of

Free Software projects just adapt to needs as developers precieve them,
which is frankly, a better idea than having development driven by
healthcare providers who are working under many misconceptions about the
limitations and capabilities of software.
It is important to have a map. It is important to have a group and a
leader to vet out reasonable requests from the user community.
Ultimately, the satisfaction of healthcare providers based on the
performance of the WorldViSTA and Mumps products will be what swings
things. But letting the providers create the software map, that might
not be the best idea.
