Wendell, I sent you an email off the list with this attached, and now I am
pasting it in here. I sent you a GTM example and you needed a Cache type
entry, so edit the TELNET device to something like this.

NUMBER: 22 NAME: TELNET
  $I: |TNT| ASK DEVICE: YES
ASK PARAMETERS: YES SIGN-ON/SYSTEM DEVICE: YES
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: TELNET SUBTYPE: C-VT320
  TYPE: VIRTUAL TERMINAL
  LAST SIGN-ON USER (c): DOCTOR,TWO

Select DEVICE NAME:

Yes, the value for the $I field is left over from a different M environment
(Cache on NT). The device software, %ZIS and related routines, is looking
for an entry in the Device file where the $I matches the "home" $I. From
the programmer prompt simply WRITE $I and observe the value. Use FileMan to
put that value (it may not have to be the full string) into the $I field for
a Device file entry such as CONSOLE or TELNET as you did below.

Subject: [Hardhats-members] HOME DEVICE DOES NOT EXIST

Hello. I’m trying to install VistA in Windows 2000 with Cache 5 using the
available instructions. I am unable to set up the programmer environment
(step 77) because I keep getting this message:

USER>D ^%CD

Namespace: VISTA
You're in namespace VISTA
Default directory is c:\cachesys\mgr\vista\
VISTA>D ^XUP

Setting up programmer environment
This is a TEST account.

Access Code:

HOME DEVICE DOES NOT EXIST IN THE DEVICE FILE
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM MANAGER!

Nancy Anthracite suggested the following, but it didn’t work. Any ideas? I
can’t be the only one to have this problem. There has to be some easy
solution. Thanks. Wendell Murray

Try this, which was done with GTM but may work with Cache as well:

GTM>D ^XUP

Setting up programmer environment
This is a TEST account.

Access Code:

HOME DEVICE DOES NOT EXIST IN THE DEVICE FILE
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM MANAGER!
GTM>

So I did this:

VA FileMan 22.0

Select OPTION: 1 ENTER OR EDIT FILE ENTRIES
INPUT TO WHAT FILE: OPTION// DEVICE (38 entries)
EDIT WHICH FIELD: ALL//
Select DEVICE NAME: TELNET TELNET |TNT|
NAME: TELNET//
LOCATION OF TERMINAL: TELNET//
Select MNEMONIC:
LOCAL SYNONYM:
$I: |TNT|// /dev/pts
VOLUME SET(CPU):
SIGN-ON/SYSTEM DEVICE: YES//
TYPE: VIRTUAL TERMINAL//
SUBTYPE: C-VT320// C-VT100
1 C-VT100 Digital Equipment Corporation VT-100 video
2 C-VT100HIGH Normal display of characters in BOLD !
CHOOSE 1-2: 1 C-VT100 Digital Equipment Corporation VT-100 video
ASK DEVICE: YES//
ASK PARAMETERS: YES// ??
On devices of TYPE 'TRM' and 'VTRM', this field controls
if the 'RIGHT MARGIN' question is asked after selecting the device.
On devices of TYPE 'MT', 'SDP', 'BAR', and 'OTH', this field controls
if the 'ADDRESS/PARAMETERS' question is asked after selecting the
device
.

Choose from:
1 YES
0 NO
ASK PARAMETERS: YES// ^
