Asterix is another (I think) similar solution to Bayonne. I have used VOIP exclusively for my work for over a year now and so far it has been quite good. I use Primus and I can conference call up to 5 people with it. I understand that Primus has free calling to Western Europe from the US too (or did when I was shopping).

I have also used Skype Out when travelling and when calling outside the "free" VOIP areas...the voice quality from Canada to Europe and Australia was superb.... easily as good or better than land lines. The price is great too about 2cents/minute....I don't mind paying for good service and Skype is portable which is great for those who travel.
