Hello,
I’m the VistA System Manager at the Jackson VAMC. The Jackson VAMC is fully functional at
this time except for outgoing long distance phone lines. We had a lot of tree damage in the
Jackson area which caused power
outages for our community. Entergy
(our electric company) had less than 20,000 residents without power on Friday,
9/10/2005. Most people in Jackson
were without power for about a week.
The Biloxi
VA is operational and they are seeing
patients. The
Gulfport division – a long term
mental facility – is not usable.
They are not planning on rebuilding the
Gulfport division as it was already
marked for shutdown next year.
The New Orleans
VA is NOT functional. It has been evacuated and only a few
security personnel are maintaining the facility at this time. The VistA system
backup tapes were retrieved from New
Orleans, and the ACTIVE database now resides at the
Houston VAMC and is accessible as if nothing ever happened.
Ain’t VistA GREAT!
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts in this time of need.
