This is good advice. About two years ago, an Indianapolis TV station, doing
a story on data security, purchased 3 random PCs second hand. As it turns
out, these PCs had been owned by a VA facility. They found a file with the
VA's HIV positive patients, other medical information, and, ironically, a
copy of the security policies.

Subject: [Hardhats-members] Reminder: if you donate PCs, wipe the disks

If you plan to donate PCs, for example, to hurricane relief efforts, don't
forget to wipe the disks clean (especially if there is a possibility of
there being financial or health information on them). Simply uninstalling
applications and deleting directories is not enough.

Use something like Darik's Boot and Nuke (http://dban.sourceforge.net/).
