In the many months I have been following this list, the closest
thing to
actual VistA development that has occurred has been your work with
imaging. The rest of the posts seem to revolve around minor issues of
configuration, generic M/VistA programming help, and various people's
random thoughts.
This list pre-dates WorldVistA by quite a bit, having been started in
conjunction with the Hardhats web site.
So, I guess, my question is basically what exactly is considered
topical
for this list?
The very first sentence at http://www.hardhats.org is:
Welcome to a web site dedicated to fostering a virtual community for
the worldwide users of the VISTA software!
I know that's broad, but at the time, the community was a fair bit
smaller, there was no WorldVistA, no VOE, but a number of people who
had started using the FOIA version of VistA and who have, and
continue to make many real contributions. But at the time, the list
was very much a list for developers and other technical personnel.
With the explosion of interest in EMR, there are a lot of people on
the list relatively new to VistA, and so the amount of "support" type
discussions have really increased.
I have yet to even fully understand what this list is for. Is it a
list
for WorldVista? If so, what is WorldVistA actually doing? Where is
their
CVS repository where they are creating code changes? If it is a
list for
OpenVista the same questions apply.
Not everyone here is part of WorldVistA, and many people here are
working on other projects. I've never been to a WV community meeting,
for instance, and am not directly involved in WV development, but I
do try to answer questions when I can. Others do the same thing.
In general there seems to be a lot of talk from various people on this
list but little to no actual progress (with some notable exceptions).
I agree, and this is one thing that bothers me, too.
I hope no one takes offense at these comments, I am just attempting to
fully understand what exactly is the goal of collaborating on this
list.
As for my personal goal of being on this list, I was hoping to 1)
further my understanding of VistA and 2) provide some form of
assistance
for people looking at CPRS and the RPC APIs that VistA provides. I
feel
that I have done both at various times.
I certainly don't. I'd love to see more original work on this list,
but my sense is that this puts me in a substantial minority. Am I wrong?
