VA is -working on- the regular update process to eventually extend it to all
standard tables. The national roll-out for standardization of just a few of
the shorter tables is just now under way. The pharmacy tables are in the
pipeline though! VA has at least some good successes with updating several
standard table entries (for entries that are determined strictly centrally,
such as VA Station Number IDs) in this new manner. The newer and trickier
part is being able to receive suggested updates from the field, review and
process the requests, enter them when appropriate into the Enterprise
Reference Terminology and send the updates on their way.

Getting VOE connected to this update stream is very important piece of the
VOE puzzle. Rather than just getting such updates via "patches", the
updates come out in near real time as content in HL7 messages to subscribing
systems.

Cameron, having never seen this system in action in the VA, I'm at a
bit of a loss. Are you saying that most VA's get HL7 messages daily
(if needed) to update the VA PRODUCT file? If so, will VOE be
connected to this update stream?
