The original was argument indirection (indirection on the whole SET argument) 
and
(assuming that the value of R is a Fileman standard global prefix) my previous 
correction
was variable indirection (where the indirection argument evaluates to a 
complete variable
reference). Your construction fails because of the included function reference 
($piece).
