I tried it twice so far. The questions seemed provide pretty good coverage of the major differences that I know of between Linux distributions.
The first time it recommended Ubuntu and Kubuntu and Mepis. Debian was listed also but rejected as being better suited to more advanced users. I have been using Debian for quite a while now, but I categorized my Linux expertise as intermediate. I also answered that I wanted a Free distribution to install as a home/office workstation on a fairly new laptop. The second time I changed some of my answers and it recommended Gentoo and Slackware. This is more or less what I expected since I indicated a preference this time for portage source based distribution over RPM (Redhat) and APT (Debian). I was a little surprised that Knoppix was not mentioned. I guess I will have to look closer at Ubuntu, Mepis, Gentoo, etc. Gregory wrote: >On Jan 6, 2006, at 1:55 PM, Bhaskar, KS wrote: > >> There have been questions on this list about which Linux >> distribution is >> the best choice, since there are so many. >> http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ has a set of questions it asks and >> then recommends a distribution. Some of the questions struck me as, well, a tad biased. --------------------------------------- Jim Self Systems Architect, Lead Developer VMTH Computer Services, UC Davis (http://www.vmth.ucdavis.edu/us/jaself) ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
