Thanks to all who responded.

I've managed to download the diagrams and, yes, they certainly look as though they were generated automatically...

So, to answer some of the questions.

I use a tool called Mega Suite from www.mega.com which is widely regarded as "best of breed" for process improvement and enterprise architecture.

It has full UML functionality, including reverse engineering of code - or model import from xmi - but goes far beyond UML and models the business processes, the application and technical architecture, and the data, fully integrating them in one single object-oriented repository...

The huge advantage is that you end up with a set of models that can be published as Word documents or as a fully interactive intranet site - ideal for training users.

Once you have them, the diagrams, you can do with them as you like. They make superb marketing material, by the way... From the top-level process diagrams loved by CEOs and COOs, drilling all the way down to your ERDs. And showing the connections all the way...

Meaning that the ERDs and Class Diagrams can be built and linked to process maps and procedures so that when you make a change in the code, you can see what organisational procedures need to be altered as well. Or vice versa...

We all have our biases. I tend to see that Mega is to Visio as Word is to Notepad. But even that's not a fair comparison. The comparison is between a set of static diagrams and a fully searchable, object-oriented model repository with built-in website and Word document generation. Okay. Enough enthusiasm for today...

Hope this gives you an idea of what's possible. It has the potential to address many of the issues that tend to hang around unattended, such as training, robust documentation, user guides, and so forth...

Greg, and anyone else reading, if you can point me to any other info or applications that might help me import from Fileman that would be much appreciated. But, as you mentioned, sometimes it's easier just to sit down and do them by hand...

Cheers,
Stephen
