Apparently, I often do not do a very good job of it, but one thing I sometimes do try to convey here is that theory really does matter. I've recalled cases where I've been able to put to use finite automata, syntax directed translation, polynomial hashes, application specific languages and the like. I'm not trying to put anyone down, maybe illustrate that these supposedly dry, theoretical ideas do have practical application. When I try and explain an idea in a few sentences, I realize it sometimes sounds like hedging or double talk, and that only means I need to do a better job.
