Hi Kevin - no I do not intend actually distribute the VistA imaging modules, however I would like to:
1) At a mininum, provide physicians the ability to record the fact that they requested an imaging order. The fulfillment of this order could be an offline process, totally disconnected from VistA.
2) Ideally, I would like VistA to generate outbound HL7 ORM messages when a radiology order is placed (and in an extremely ideal situation, receive inbound ORU messages containing the report).
You're right, distributing PACS systems for diagnostic use requires FDA approval and I'm not planning on going into that space.
