Anna, I wrote an XML exporter that takes a template (which specifies files and fields) and dumps them for selected records. This might help.
On the otherhand the raw output of individual files can at times be difficult to interpret. I then wrote an HTML exporter that just exports progress notes (no labs etc) and creates an interlinked "website" for one patient. If those would be helpful, I would be willing to get code to you.
