I don't know who would be offended by your observation, but I agree: there is much about Fileman that isn't intuitive, or worse, that is counterintuitive. In this case, I think you're seeing examples of features being added late in the game, and syntax growing through accretion. In some ways, that may be inevitable, but that doesn't mean we can't do a better job.
