One approach is called the AUDIT file and has the following fields (aka columns). It’s part of VA FileMan (whose documentation gives more details about how to use it.) It actually records down to the individual field.
.001 NUMBER .01 INTERNAL ENTRY NUMBER .02 DATE/TIME RECORDED .03 FIELD NUMBER .04 USER .05 RECORD ADDED 1 ENTRY NAME 1.1 FIELD NAME 2 OLD VALUE 2.1 OLD INTERNAL VALUE 2.2 DATATYPE OF OLD VALUE 3 NEW VALUE 3.1 NEW INTERNAL VALUE 3.2 DATATYPE OF NEW VALUE 4.1 MENU OPTION USED 4.2 PROTOCOL or OPTION USED
More specialized capabilities (using FileMan Triggers) are used for aggregating changes to multiple fields for transmission to “subscribing” systems using the HL7 package. (Aggregation is done to avoid sending a separate message for each field changed …)

Hi All
Is it true that there is such a thing as a recipient file in VistA that can be used to send notification if a record (aka file entry?) has been added or updated or deleted? If so, what is the file number and is there documentation on how to use it?
Thank you, Renee
