I am very pleased to post this on behalf of the HUI folks!

hui releases MAJOR UPGRADE TO HUI OpenVistaTM

The Pacific Telehealth & Technology Hui (“Hui”) announced the release of Hui
OpenVista™ Version 4.0, the first major release upgrade of the
non-proprietary, open-source healthcare information system since its initial
launch in June 2003.
Hui OpenVista is based on the Department of Veterans Affairs VistA® system
made available to the public through the Freedom of Information Act. “Version
4.0 provides many enhancements needed to implement Hui OpenVista in a non-VA
site to enable more health care organizations to implement it as their
enterprise solution,” said Hui Director Stanley M. Saiki, Jr., M.D.
The most notable enhancement to Hui OpenVista 4.0 is a more streamlined
installation process. Version 4.0 provides a preconfigured baseline system
that simplifies the steps needed to convert the Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA) version of VistA to Hui OpenVista. This enables users to quickly
download the baseline as a starting point for configuring the system to their
specific requirements.
The Hui is releasing Version 4.0 in response to a growing interest in Hui
OpenVista as an affordable healthcare information system. Hui OpenVista 4.0
represents the latest VistA FOIA as of March 2006 (including CPRS Version 25)
with VA patches applied to the system’s core modules including Kernel,
Scheduling, Outpatient Pharmacy, Order Entry, Laboratory, Text Integration
Utility and RPC Broker. The Linux-based Hui OpenVista upgrade includes
updates to VistA patient registration, scheduling, pharmacy, and laboratory
modules. A link to the 4.0 Release Notes, which outlines the enhancements
made and methodology used to upgrade Hui OpenVista 2.5 to Version 4.0, is
also available on the Hui’s web site at www.pacifichui.org.
Since its release in June 2003, Hui OpenVista has attracted widespread
interest from healthcare and medical research organizations as well as
technology companies and software developers worldwide. To date more than
3,000 Hui OpenVista licenses have been executed by healthcare organizations,
software developers, medical researchers and universities from the Hui web
site.
The Pacific Telehealth & Technology Hui was formed in 1999 with the
encouragement and support of U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye. A subsidiary of
the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) under the
U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, the Hui facilitates
interdisciplinary research partnerships with government, academia and
industry to advance the development of emerging technologies and improve
health care for beneficiaries in the Pacific region.
