Well, I decided to download VMWare Player, and got debian (sarge) to
run to a command prompt on my windows desktop. I would like to see
if I could get KDE up and running. I don't know if this comes with
Debian, or if I will have to get it with apt.

Can anyone post some commands to get a gui running. I'm not a true
power user yet :-)

As root:
apt-get install kde

That should get kde and everything kde depends on. But then you may find yourself endlessly tinkering to get everything configured. There are better ways to spend one's life.

It would be worth the bandwidth to get the Kunbuntu appliance from the VMWare site. Kunbuntu is the KDE version of Unbuntu. Unbuntu is based on Debian. The FOIA VistA SemiVivA should install nicely.
