If you are doing this as an experiment or for fun the HardHats Wiki has a ton of set-up information and you should start there.  When you’ve exhausted those resources, the VistA site has the VistA Document Library (VDL).

If you are doing this for a production account and need to move quickly, you want to find one of the many VistA experienced vendors and get help.  WorldVistA has a list of VOE vendors that they have tested and qualified.  They would also be useful for VistA itself, as the two systems are nearly identical.  You can also contact the VistA Software Alliance (VSA) to find a vendor.

Finally, as you are doing the configuration and set-up, ask specific questions here and someone will either know the answer or know where to find it.

It makes sense; modifying the registration part is logically the first step in this process. Do you or any body else for that matter, have any idea on what to do next? I'm referring to the whole process of setting up a Non-va facility; making VistA work as part of a Non-VA facility.

Veteran specific checks are mostly (possibly totally) related to registration.  If you define a patient as a veteran, VistA wants dates of service, qualifying disability, disability percentage, etc.  These checks are one of the first things that projects for Non-VA versions of VistA change.  I am not familiar enough with the entire VistA system to know if there are other places where "Ignore Veteran specific checks" may apply, but registration is probably what is meant.

Subject: [Hardhats-members] Customizing VistA for Non-VA Facilities

Hi,

This has been a long debate for quite some time now. We briefely analyzed VOE for its ability to work in NON-VA facilities. The version we had was the Beta release of VOE; most of the changes were targeting registration and general documentation.

We are currently working with latest release of HUIOpenVistA 4.0, trying to setup a basic structure. I would like to know if there are any guides available for setting up a Non-VA facility. This starts right from the the creation of the Institution / Parent Facility. Is there any such thing as a Non-VA Instituation?

As far as the patient types are concerned; while editing the NON-VA patient type, there was a specific option "Ignore Veteran specific checks?" this was selected as NO by default. I did try setting it to Yes, but so far havent found anything noticeable. I want to know, what specific checks are we talking about?

Is Patient Treatment File (PTF) created for all patients, Veterans and non-veterans.

Regards,

Wasif.
