What i underastand is that there are no 'fields' defined in your Devie file.
That means it doesnt even display (0 enteries) when you look up for the file. like this 'NAME' file. Even if there are no enteries in this file. It should display '0 entries'.

OUTPUT FROM WHAT FILE: DEVICE// N
     1   NAME                             (0 entries)
     2   NAME COMPONENTS                  (16 entries)
     3   NATIONAL CLINIC                  (2706 entries)
4   NATIONAL DRUG TRANSLATION        (0 entries)
     5   NATIONAL EIL                     (95 entries)

I faced the same problem while setting up the New VistA (Cache.dat from VA ftp). In my case it was 'volume set' file which i could not edit or even inquire.
I had to reinstall VistA (D ^ZTMGRSET) and (d ^DINIT), that solved my problem.

I am not sure if only Fileman initialization (d ^DINIT) is the solution or defining VistA Globals variables (D ^ZTMGRSET) has to be performed too, to solve this problem.

If there is another solution that can resolve the problem in an easy way, with out reinstalling FileMan, i would like to know about it.

Regards

Jawad

Are you starting VA FileMan with D P^DI?  You may not have sufficient "authority" to edit the file.

I'm following the install instructions for a windows. Everything was going smooth until I tried and configure my HOME device. When I enter in 3.5 I'm returned to the VISTA>prompt. When I check (??) for 3.5 it's there but there nothing over in the entries column. I checked the archives for this answer, but was able to find anything. Do I have to start over or can I build this list?

Are you using Caché? If so, you may not have your global mappings set up correctly? If you're using GT.M, it may be a problem with your global directory.
