Isn't that PCI express?  PCI is more hub like where all devices talk 
directly to the CPU while PCI express allows devices to talk directly to 
other pci express devices.

It's already been done. PCI is technically a switch and ever since the 
i8xx chipsets, the north and sounth bridges are basically high speed hubs 
between interconnects.
