While the subject of TV's is being discussed, I have the question for the ages.. I must admit I am totally lost with regard to HDTV.. Gaining in understanding, but still hopelessly befuddled.
My TV is a Sony WEGA 40XBR800.. This is the 40" tube TV that weighs 305 pounds.. What a monster, but what a picture.. So I decided to take the plunge with Cox and get HD hooked up.. The digital box with Cox is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250HD.. High Definition really is amazing.. So here we go.. Is the picture by definition, necessarily compressed to a smaller size with black and gray bars as borders in the center of the screen? I'm having to answer my wife's classic question: "It's really a clear picture Bill, but why is the picture so small?" Of course she is used to a 4:3 TV where the picture fills the screen.. HD is compressed, but all my other digital non-HD pictures are compressed also.. Struggling to understand here.. TIA, Bill
