My thanks to both you guys, you got me thinking about what I was trying to
and the solution is pretty simple. Run the batch file directly from
encrypted disk I am backing up. If I compile it so that it can't be easily
viewed, then the only way someone could get at the batch file is if they
took the machine and had the time and tools to de-compile it. But the
second you shut the machine down, the file is now in a unbreakable blowfish
image file! So I'm set.... and I learned some important things from both of
you!

Not so with EFS in play. If you encrypt a folder with EFS, even a password
hack is no going give access if you do EFS the right way.

full key in a
variable because someone could notice that when reverse engineering your
executable that you have this long string of random characters. Then on
top of that you can use a free packer like upx or get more sophisticated
and find one way packers like ASpack.
