Plug the USB2 drive in and you immediately see a drive with a volume = Public. Launch the software anc create your secure zone. Then start up the Secure zone and insert your password after which you will see a second drive in explorer called secure...with your data. I don't know if there is 3rd party software that will work like this so you could do something similar on other brands. But it makes it very easy.
Another approach you could use, If you are trying to protect data, that you want to use a password to access, then Winzip will do it and encrypt it AES 256bit. you would put the data in a zip file and encrypt it. Then unzip the folder onto the flash drive and delete it when your finished. Winzip is shareware but only has a beg screen. Again, it would have to be installed on your computer.
If you want the encrypted data to appear as a drive on the PC, like it would if you were encrypting a data drive, or using Lexar Secure, then you will need a program that will create an encrypted image the size of the flash drive, after which you would copy the image on to the flash drive. When you put the flash drive in you would have to use installed software to mount the drive, using a key, or password.
All and all your best bet is going to be to buy a 30 dollar Secure Lexar flash drive that is all ready setup to do this.

What's the best freeware package out there if I want to encrypt my entire thumb drive? I have a sandisk if that makes any difference. I want to keep it encrypted at work in case anyone grabs it.
