I have some perplexing problems recording line-in sound using Windows sound recorder and Nero Wave Editor or Creative's Recorder. The sound from my stereo, a NAD T 752 system, is connected through line-in connector on the SoundBlaster Audigy card on a MSI K7N2 Delta MB under WinXP Pro

As long as the source on the NAD T 752 is tuner, TV, and CD there are no problems with the computer sound, but..... there is no sound when the source is the tape deck!

Another puzzle is that the Windows Sound Recorder has stopped working altogether, while Nero Wave Editor 2.0.0.55 works fine - as far as tuner, TV, and CD are concerned, but I can't consistently record when the sound source is the computer (CD or web radio). Both input and output devices in Nero Wave Editor are set to SB Audigy Audio.

Creatives Recorder works fine in these instances as long as it is set to record from Wave/MP3. The setting for line-in has to be "What U Hear".

I don't understand why the signal from the tape deck is not sent to the amplifier's output jacks. How can the dumb receiver know where the signal came from originally?

I have quite a few cassette tapes that I want to transfer to CDs, so I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to make this work or if there are any other alternatives available.
