OEM pricing is less warranty 1st of all, cheaper per part 2nd.
Now as too if OEM's use this stuff to decouple good parts in the hopes of using worse I'd say that's plain stupid. You can't get any worse than a stock CPU HSF and cases come cheap enough with installed PSU's. Only thing I could see is buy an mega expensive case sans-PSU and then isntalling a cheap-o PSU in an attempt to rip off the consumer that way.
If the customer is STUPID enough to buy a custom built system without getting a detailed quote, cavet emptior. If they're not smart enough to know better, tough, they should be.

My problem is that the case I like comes with a 350W AOpen (AOpen won't sell their case without a PS because they are concerned - and rightly so - that bottom feeders will put a crap PS in their case and make AOpen look bad.) I can pull the PS and put in, say, a NoiseTaker 470 for $65, but then I have a 350W PS that I have to get rid of. I guess I could eBay
ASI, my supplier will allow me to buy just the Enlight case. I buy the combination case/PS.
Somebody reacting to my comments on this or another list about my strong preference to the retail boxed CPU (which includes the fan) stated that some buy the CPU in bulk (no fan) so they can install a better fan. True, but isn't 90% of bulk purchases (where you omit a PS or a CPU fan) made so the computer manufacturer can install a cheaper fan or CPU? "that bottom feeders will put a crap PS in their case" If you buy a case without PS or a CPU without fan so you can install a better quality CPU of fan, I am all for you, but I feel you fit in the only 10% who buy with this in mind.
