Oh yes. I do backups to an HD in a firewire case. Moving my data over is not an issue, I've done that a thousand times. What I'm wanting to do is to move all the apps and their setting over and to avoid having to reinstall and reconfigure everything. That's the hard part.
That's what was so nice when I ran Ghost from my XpPe Cd as I imaged the old drive to a networked drive then replaced the drive & restored the image that I had just created from the networked drive to the newer drive without loosing a thing.
Sounds like your backup app only runs within Windows & that you only backed up the data. If you had backed up everything then when you did the restore it would restore those settings etc as well. The trick now is getting some OS [DOS or Win or Linux] to run from a bootable drive [floppy or cdrom] that will do the backup or imaging as well as the restore & re-imaging.
Well, I do a backup from within windows and I do backup everything on the HD...system state, too. I assume that all of the windows system gets backed up, including drivers for mobo and addon cards. So would not a restore from backup bring all of that stuff over too, in addition to the apps?
