Well StorageReview is not what it used to be IMHO. Read an article on
their
site not long ago that Raid 0 in their test performed no better and a
single
drive. They either had a flawed test or the wrong OS or whatever. But
after
reading about 1/2 of the article I moved on. At one time the site was
terrific but after they nearly shut down about 3 years ago its not been
more
than a shadow of its former self.
Uhmm...in single user scenarios, RAID0 does NOT provide any -real-
performance benefit. Obviously in STR alone (and if you do things where STR
is important, like video processing, but even then it is usually quicker to
have two single drives set up to read from drive 0, and write to drive 1)
RAID0 provides performance enhancements, as well as in multi-user
environments...but as a general rule, RAID0 does not significantly improve
system performance for a single-user machine.
Their number of reviews are limited to the point where I don't consider
their observations to be relevant any longer.
This is true, and has been their biggest issue here recently. They claim
that Testbed4 is coming, and should improve the flow of reviews.
Now I don't have the factual information to know whether that quote is
valid
or not. But for myself - I would verify with another source before I made
a
decision one way or another.
SR's analysis is still very solid. They have more experience with hard drive
performance than anybody on this list. They still have most of the fastest
and newest drives, though they have recently been delayed in getting those
numbers out. The SR forum, on the other hand, is completely worthless.
Again, the lack of reviews here recently has hurt the usefulness of the
site. However, the analysis is still beyond reproach.
