This seems to be true from what I have seen.

Subject: [H] Blown Caps

I was talking to an IBM technician about Netvista A40 motherboards (I've
replaced about 40 of these in the past year) and he mentioned that the caps
with an X on the top (pressed into the metal) are the bad caps and the ones
with a K on top are the good ones (IBM has refurbed some of these boards and
apparently don't replace all the caps when they do.) Since then I've
noticed on non-IBM motherboards blown caps with Xs on top and ones with Ys
unblown. Does this have any truth to it? Has anyone else noticed that one
can tell potentially bad caps by markings on them?
