The PIII Tualatin ran neck and neck with the athlon back then, it's not a surprise that it can do the same on an even playing field with the needed mhz and bandwidth.
Actually, it is a surprise. AMD has presumably done more than just increase the MHz as they moved from the Athlon to XP to AMD 64. And the power demands are awesome. Intel has an AMD killer here, I would say.
