Soon after I posted the last message I checked out some of my hardware. Not too 
long ago I installed a Hauppauge capture card. Then the BeyondTV app to use 
with it. I removed the card AND the BTV software. I then removed the drives 
from DM & the lower filters from the registry & restarted. TADA!!! The drives 
are back. At least one came back, & after inserting CD's in each a couple of 
times & cranking up Nero, the other drive eventually came back.

Then I took a leap of faith & reinstalled the capture card. The drives are 
still there. Now I have to reinstall the BTV app & see if they dissappear 
again. Gee, MS is sure flakey sometimes.
