The part that was interesting to me was that it said it could get the
restore points to roll back to with out booting the XP install. I have run
into this trying to get back to a point that was working but not able to
because the system would not go to the desktop.

Using SFC to restore to a previous bootable point doesn't work all that well if you ask me. When I've tried it on a system I get nothing but errors that tell me that the restore point is damaged or can't be restored & when restore does work it doesn't do a darned thing towards fixing the problem. I find that fixing the damage done by viruses, trojans &/or malware goes a long way to restoring a once bootable system much more so than using SFC. Quite frankly I don't know why ERU wasn't implemented with Xp. I often run this after I've restored a system to working stable order just so I have a quick starting point the next time the losers trash it but as we all know trashing the registry is not the only way one can prevent a system from booting properly. Supposedly that is what MSFT was trying to do with SFC but IMHO it fails more times than not therefore I don't use it at all on any of my systems.
