We've got them everywhere. They are constantly coming out of the woodwork
except that they try their darndest to get you to walk them through it on
the phone for(my cell) free or lunch at McDonald's. You never get away with
just the OS, they want all the updates and, of course, "would you mind
putting on these few(probably in excess of 20) programs?". I charge $125.00,
even in this wacko economy, plus $10.00 a program. Don't get many takers,
but, what the hell, I'm retired anyway!! I tell them to go to CUSA or BB
where they can really get screwed ala carte. Or, of course, they can always
have those flying geeckos come by in their bugs.

Here's one for you:
Him: "Hi, I'm installing a new hard drive and Windows on my parent's
computer. It's a Compaq, and the recovery CDs won't install to a 40GB
hard drive. I was wondering if you would loan me your Windows 98 CD so I
can install the XP upgrade."
Me: (knowing the answer before asking): "Is this a computer from us?"
Him: "No."
Me: "Did you get the hard drive here?"
Him: "No."
Me: "Well, we can't legally loan out our CDs. If it was a computer from
us, I'd get you a 98 CD, but since it's from Compaq, you'd really have to
talk to them."
Him: "You can't make an exception?"
Me: "No, I really can't. But you could bring the system in, and I could
install XP for you."
Him: "No, I don't want to do that."
So he left. Are people becoming more insane and demanding, or is it just
me?
