Aloha Neil, This may be a camera 'problem.' My Sony HandiCam allows moving video from my PC to the Hi8 tape through the 4-pin firewire port - but not vice versa. To transfer video from the HandiCam to my PC, I have to use the 'video out' jack and a 'special' three wire cable. Anyway, check the camera manual... Have a wonderful day!
