Its that time that I need to replace all the toner carts in my Okidata
C5150N L.E.D. Laser Color Printer. Buying the 4 carts (black plus 3
primaries) is about $450.
I can get a toner kit for all for about $150 - So I think I might give it a
roll. The Oki carts are designed so that adding toner is quite easy.
Has anyone had experience with refilling toner carts?
Filling can be very very dirty, but that's not the big issue.
The issue with refurbed toners (or filling yourself) is that toner that
isn't identical to the stuff the printer is expecting will destroy the
fuser overtime. So you need to assume that refilling the toner cartridge
yourself will destroy the fuser. In my experience, this takes between one
and six toners (depending on the fuser and the quality of the toner.) So
you need to do the math to see if the money saved on toner will buy a
fuser. If you save more than a fuser costs, it may be worth it.
Please note that my experience is not based on Okis specifically - my
experience is with IBM, Lexmark, and HP printers.
