Mandriva is very easy to use, and a pretty nice system. I use Gentoo, but I'm not sure a rank beginner would be happy with it, then install Procedure is... different. As someone who has used linux for almost 10 years now the install is actaully quite intuitive for me, but if I were going from windows it would definately be best to go with Mandriva IMO.
