I haven't found anything they won't work in. They're not going to replace those small globe bulbs, but those have a smaller socket.

I was talking more like outside lights that you might put a protective globe over the bulb but if they're smaller than a standard 40w bulb then it should work. I wonder how many old foggies have tried the 1st generation & have said never again? I always had to wear tinted glasses as those warm lights gave me headaches which was just another reason I liked working in the computer rooms as they had color corrected bulbs & better diffusers. Now a days computers are everywhere so I doubt many companies take any extra ergonomic precautions.
