We've been aware of New Orleans' inevitable horror for decades, and absolutely nothing sufficient was done about it. The levees, now broken and filling the city, were supposedly designed to protect against a Category Three hurricane, yet Katrina was only a Two when it hit. It's a major port, crucial to the nation. Shouldn't everything have been better and higher?
It will. We, the taxpayers will do whatever it takes to rebuilt New Orleans in the same location and build it better. It would be a personal insult for the government to offer to purchase some land that is high ground to build a city for the people that have been displaced. The real kicker is mankind does not accept the fact that man has ruined the earth. These natural disasters will come more frequently and be much larger. How do we know? They already have!
But who am I to predict? I am not an engineer. Let me shut up. Let the new flood insurance rates for those areas speak. They are more believable. As for me, if I had lost a home near the coast, Hello Kansas!!!
