Yeah, I'm in a quandry as to FX-55 or Athlon 64 4000 which, as I understand
it, is basically the FX-53 which was skipped in the naming convention. I'll
check the benchmarks on the 3800...

No problems with the sound card. I run an Audigy 2 ZS on an Asus A8N-SLi
and
it runs perfectly (as it should!)
Consider the 3800 X2 CPU. Default speed 2GHz although most boards will
overclock it to 2.5-2.7GHz with the retail heatsink/fan.

Subject: [H] Which CPU/board makes sense with the 7800 GTX?
I'm going to spring for a 7800GTX card, and am looking for a good CPU/mobo
combo to go with. Maximum PC's latest issue had a 10-card videocard
showdown, and they used an Athlon FX-55 and nForce4 SLI motherboard and
2GB
DDR RAM as a test system.
Looking around and comparing prices, I'm considering going with an Athlon
64
4000 CPU, as it's about half the price of an FX-55. I don't think I want
an
nForce board because I have the Audigy 2 ZS sound card that I still want
to
use, and I'm not sure they would play nice together.
So, will an Athlon 64 4000 be a bottleneck with the 7800GTX card? And
what
motherboard would work well with these two components and the Audigy sound
card?
thanks all..
